Were UGGs made for surfers?

Yes. Sheepskin boots caught on with competitive surfers in Australia in the 1970s, because nothing warms your feet faster after a cold session. Around 1978 Brian Smith, an Australian surfer living in California, started selling them here and registered the UGG name. Deckers bought the company in 1995, and it's still based in California.

That's why you'll find UGGs at a surf shop that's been in Huntington Beach since 1957. Pull a pair on after a dawn patrol at the pier and you'll get it.

How should UGGs fit?

Snug. UGG says its boots run true to size, and the sheepskin footbed molds to your foot as you wear them, so a pair that feels a little close on day one loosens up. Our UGG styles come in whole sizes. If you're a half size, the smaller size is usually the better call, since sheepskin gives and a loose UGG stays loose.

How do you clean UGGs?

UGG recommends its own Cleaner & Conditioner and cold water, cleaning by hand. Skip the washing machine. Brush off dry dirt first, work the cleaner in gently, then let them air dry away from heaters and direct sun. Suede and sheepskin aren't waterproof, so a rainy day calls for different shoes.

Why can't you wear socks with UGGs?
