From the Times Square of Surfing Since 1957

Nearly 70 years ago, Jack's Surfboards was born from a father's love and a surfer's need. In 1957, Jack Hokanson noticed his sons returning from surfing sessions at the Huntington Beach Pier, shivering in the cold Pacific waters. That simple observation sparked an idea that would change surf retail forever.

Jack opened one of California's first comprehensive surf shops at the corner of Main Street and Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach - not just selling surfboards, but wetsuits and all the gear surfers needed. That location, now known as the "Times Square of Surfing," remains our flagship store today.

A Family Legacy Built on Passion

In the early 1970s, Palestinian immigrants Mike Abdelmuti and Ron Abdel saw something special in Jack's vision. They sold their clothing stores to purchase Jack's Surfboards, and over the next five decades, built it into a California institution. Today, our 16,000 square foot flagship store stands as a testament to their dedication to surf culture and the Huntington Beach community.

Honoring Surf Culture & Community

Our commitment to surfing goes beyond retail. Mike Abdelmuti donated $500,000 to create and fund the Huntington Beach Surfing Walk of Fame, which now draws 11 million visitors annually to celebrate surf legends and the sport's rich history. For our 60th anniversary, we proudly sponsored the Jack's Surfboards Pro event, continuing our tradition of supporting competitive surfing.
