Mens Corduroy Shorts
Jack's Surfboards carries men's corduroy shorts from Katin, Brixton, Rhythm and Rip Curl, plus our own Jack's Latitude cord short. Most have an elastic waist with a drawcord and a 17" to 19" outseam, so they sit above the knee. Choose fine 16-wale cord for a smoother look or wide 11-wale for more texture. Our own Jack's cord short is the most affordable pair. Current prices are shown on each product above.
Which corduroy shorts are right for you?
| Short | Cord | Waist and length | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Katin Cord Local | 16-wale cotton with 2% spandex | Elastic waist with drawcord, 17" outseam | Katin calls it a corduroy staple for decades. Enzyme washed. |
| Katin Ward | Cotton waffle corduroy | Elastic waist with drawstring, 17" outseam | A waffle texture you don't see every day. |
| Katin Kennith | High-low corduroy with 2% spandex | Fixed waistband, 18" outseam | The one with a fixed waist, sold in waist sizes. |
| Brixton Everyday Corduroy Short | Soft corduroy | Adjustable elastic waistband, 19" outseam and 7" inseam | Relaxed fit with side and back welt pockets. |
| Rhythm Classic Cord Jam | 11-wale cotton corduroy | Elastic waist, 17" outseam | Rhythm's take on surf heritage, with wide ridges. |
| Rhythm Harlan Jam | Textured cotton-poly wale | Elastic waist with drawstring, 18" outseam | Garment washed for a soft, worn-in feel. |
| Rip Curl Classic Surf Cord Volley | Cotton corduroy with an acid wash | 19" outseam, loose fit | The longest, loosest cut here. |
| Jack's Latitude Cord Short | Cotton corduroy with 2% spandex | Elastic waist with drawstrings, 17.5" outseam and 8" inseam | Our own. Velcro back pocket and the lowest price. |

What does wale mean on corduroy shorts?
Wale is the number of ridges per inch of fabric. A higher number means finer ridges. Katin's Cord Local is 16-wale, which looks smoother and a little dressier. A lower number means wider, chunkier ridges. Rhythm's Classic Cord Jam is 11-wale, which reads more vintage.
How long should corduroy shorts be?
Most of ours have a 17" to 18" outseam, which lands above the knee. Outseam is measured down the outside of the leg from the top of the waistband to the hem, and inseam is the inside of the leg. Rip Curl's Classic Surf Cord Volley and Brixton's Everyday Corduroy Short both run 19" if you want more length. Our Jack's Latitude has a 17.5" outseam and an 8" inseam.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the best corduroy shorts for men?
It depends on the fit you want. For an everyday elastic-waist short, Katin's Cord Local and Brixton's Everyday Corduroy Short. For more texture, Rhythm's Classic Cord Jam in 11-wale or Katin's waffle-cord Ward. For a longer, looser cut, Rip Curl's Classic Surf Cord Volley. On a budget, our Jack's Latitude.
Are corduroy shorts good?
Yes. Cotton corduroy is soft, holds its shape and gets better with washing, and an elastic waist makes them as easy to wear as a pair of sweats. Katin calls its Cord Local a corduroy staple for decades.
Do corduroy shorts have an elastic waist?
Most of ours do. Katin's Cord Local and Ward, Brixton's Everyday, Rhythm's Cord Jam and our Jack's Latitude all have an elastic waist with a drawcord. Katin's Kennith has a fixed waistband.
What shirt do you wear with corduroy shorts?
A plain or graphic tee is the easy answer. Brixton suggests a vintage tee or a button-up with its Everyday Corduroy Short, and either one works with any pair here.
What are vintage corduroy shorts?
Shorts cut and washed to look worn in: an elastic waist, an above-the-knee length and a faded finish. Rhythm pre-washes its Cord Jam for a vintage feel, and Rip Curl acid-washes its Surf Cord Volley.
Is there a difference between cord shorts and corduroy shorts?
No. Cord is short for corduroy, and brands use both. Katin's Cord Local and Rhythm's Cord Jam are corduroy shorts.
Are corduroy shorts good for the beach?
For the walk down and the hang after, yes. Most are cotton corduroy, which holds water, so for surfing wear boardshorts. Rip Curl finishes its Premium Surf Cord Volley with quick-dry fabric for everyday wear.
What size corduroy shorts should I get?
Go with your usual size. Most elastic-waist styles come in letter sizes, and the drawcord lets you dial in the fit. Fixed-waist styles like Katin's Kennith come in waist sizes. Check the size chart on each product page.
Do you have longer corduroy shorts?
Yes. Rip Curl's Classic Surf Cord Volley and Brixton's Everyday Corduroy Short have a 19" outseam, and Katin's Kennith and Rhythm's Harlan Jam are 18".
